Tub Transfer Tips
- Have a non-skid mat or strips on the bottom of the tub
- Always transfer into and out of a dry tub to prevent the patient’s feet from slipping.
- Sitting on a dry towel while transferring can make the transfer smoother into the tub
- Recommend transfer board when the patient transfers
- Baby powder on the transfer board to decreases friction
- DO NOT substitute soap dishes or towel racks for safety bars
- Have the patient check the temperature of the water with a sensate surface to ensure they will not be burned
Bottom of the Tub:
- Patients should avoid independent transfers from the bottom of the tub to the wheelchair.
- The use of a tub bench or tub lift seat minimizes forces exerted on the shoulder.
