Side Method - Chair to Tub

Set-up phase

  • Remove the footrest closest to the tub (if applicable). Position the wheelchair next to the tub. Lock brakes.
  • Remove the armrest closest to the tub. The patient should place feet on the floor.
  • The patient should scoot forward to the front 2/3 of the wheelchair seat.
  • Position the transfer board so it “bridges” the space between the wheelchair and tub seat. It should rest under the patient’s buttocks on the tub seat.

Flight-End phase

  • Place the foot that is closest to the tub into the tub.
  • The patient should carefully lift themselves up and over the side of the tub and onto the tub seat.
  • Place the other foot in the tub.
