Wheelchair Maintenance Training Program

Improved wheelchair maintenance has been suggested as a strategy to keep users' wheelchairs in appropriate working condition, increase reliability and reduce wheelchair-related accidents and injury rates.

Through a collaboration between the University of Pittsburgh Model Center on Spinal Cord Injury, Midwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury Care System, Northern New Jersey Spinal Cord Injury System and South Florida Spinal Cord Injury Model System the Wheelchair Maintenance Training Program (WMTP) has been developed to train clinicians on how to teach wheelchair users (and caregivers when applicable) in a group setting to perform maintenance at home.
