Performance Criteria: Set-up Phase

The performance criteria was selected as a way for therapists to track performance over training sessions

Performance criteria for Set-up Phase:
  • The patient will position their chair as close to the transfer surface as possible at a 20-45° angle relative to the transfer surface
  • The patient will make educated decisions to perform level or downhill transfers whenever possible
  • The patient will scoot forward in the wheelchair and remove armrest
  • The patient will place their feet on the floor to increase stability
  • The patient will minimize shoulder internal rotation, abduction and flexion by using 30-45° of leading arm abduction
  • The patient will avoid placing either hand on a flat surface when a handgrip is present during the transfers
  • The patient will prioritize good shoulder positioning over reaching for a faraway handgrip
